Henry Raeburn Paintings
Sir Henry Raeburn, 1756-1823, was Scotland's first significant portrait painter and served to King George IV in Scotland. He had been described as a "famously intuitive" portrait painter. The artist was unusual in the extent of his philosophy of oil painting directly from life; he made no preliminary sketches. From Henry Raeburn paintings, it could be anticipated many of the later developments in artworks of the nineteenth century from romanticism to Impressionism. He was elected president of the Society of Artists, was knighted by George IV and appointed His Majesty's limner for Scotland. -- The Copyright of Scripts is Reserved by Toperfect.
