Herbert Gustave Schmalz, 1856-1935, was an English painter. He was counted among the Pre-Raphaelites. After a voyage to Jerusalem in 1890，a series of Herbert Gustave Schmalz paintings were made with New Testament topics, with the Return from Calvary (1891) as one of the best known.
