William Trost Richards, 1833-1905, was an American landscape artist associated with both the Hudson River School and the American Pre-Raphaelite movement. The painter was elected the honorary member of the National Academy of Design and Academician. He insisted on meticulous factual renderings. William Trost Richards’s art of the White Mountains was almost photographic in their realism; he painted almost exclusively marine watercolors.
