William Powell Frith, 1819-1909, was an English oil painter specialising in genre subjects and panoramic narrative artworks of life in the Victorian era. The first major retrospective of William Powell Frith art was staged at the Guildhall Art Gallery, London in 2006. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1853 and had been described as the "greatest British painter of the social scene since Hogarth".
