Émile Friant, 1863-1932, was a French Realism artist who created works in charcoal, oil, and other media. He also used photographs to prepare finished paintings. In 1883 Émile Friant took second place in the Prix de Rome; and again presented at the Salon,won third-class and second-class honors respectively.
