Lucas Cranach the Elder, 1472-1553, was a German Renaissance painter, court painter to the Electors of Saxony. He is known for religious subjects and portraits, both of German princes and those of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Lucas Cranach the Elder paintings of religious subjects reflect the development of the Protestant Reformation, and its attitudes to religious art. Cranach is honoured together with Dürer and Grünewald with a feast day of the Episcopal Church (USA), and is remembered as a great Christian by the Lutheran Church. -- The Copyright of Scripts is Reserved by Toperfect.
