Dieric Bouts, 1415-1475, was an Early Netherlandish painter. He was among the first northern painters to demonstrate the use of a single vanishing point, Dieric Bouts paintings are highly expressive with especially good landscape backgrounds. He attained the rank of city painter of Leuven in 1468, and received a commission to paint two more works for the Town Hall. Many of Bouts' authentic oil paintings are small devotional panels, usually of the Virgin and Child
