Biography of Camille PissarroFrench Impressionist painter(b. July 10, 1830, St. Thomas, Danish West Indies--d. Nov. 13, 1903, Paris) The name was often spelled as Pissaro, Camile Pissarro, Pissarro Camille, Camille Pissaro, Pissaro Camille. On July the 10th,1830, meet Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas in France, Portuguese-Spain Jewish painter. In 1842 (12 years old), young Pissarro left St. Thomas for Pairs to study in a boarding school. In 1852 (22 years old), he went to Venezuela with Denmark painter Fritz Melbye. In 1855 (25 years old)Camille Pissarro returned to Pairs pursuing his study in many famous academies and being apprenticed to painting masters Jean-Baptiste-Camille and Charles-Fran. In 1870 (40 years old), the Franco-Prussian War broke out, artist Pissarro was compelled to left his home in Louveciennes. |

In 1872 (41 years old), Pissaro returned to Louveciennes but found that his residence had been ruined by troops of Prussia. He was determined to bring his
family to London to take refuge.
In 1893 (63 years old), Durand-Ruel held a large exhibition, 46 pieces of Pissarro paintings are included. On November 13th 1903 (73 years old), Pissarro passed away in Paris and was buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery. |
Pissarro Camillewas a mentor to Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin and his example inspired many younger artists, including Californian Impressionist Lucy Bacon. Influence from the painter on his fellow Impressionists is probably still underestimated; not only did he supplies substantial contributions to Impressionist theory, but he also managed to remain on friendly, mutually respectful terms with such difficult personalities as Edgar Degas, Cézanne and Gauguin. Camille Pissaro exhibited at all eight of the Impressionist exhibitions. Moreover, whereas Monet was the most prolific and emblematic practitioner of the Impressionist style, Pissaro Camille was nonetheless a primary developer of Impressionist technique. He experimented with Neo-Impressionist ideas between 1885 and 1890. Discontented with what he referred to as "romantic Impressionism," Pissarro impressionist investigated Pointillism which he called "scientific Impressionism" before returning to a purer Impressionism in the last decade of his life. |
