Mariano Alonso Pérez y Villagrosa (1857-1930) was a Spanish painter living in the era of the restoration of the Bourbon Dynasty. He began artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zaragoza and continued at the special School of painting, sculpture and printmaking in Madrid. Later he moved to Rome where he attended the academy Chigi and Cauva and became familiar with the technique of watercolor. In 1889 he settled in Paris where his brother the composer Luis Alonso resided and made different works set in the time of Louis XVI that had great demand at international level and allowed him to live in a carefree way. From 1910 he became interested in the painting of social theme and in 1914, coinciding with the beginning of the First World War, decided to return to Spain to settle in Madrid city in which he died in 1930.
