Franz Xaver Winterhalter, 1805-1873, was a German painter, known for his portraits of royalty in the mid-nineteenth century. The royal families of England, France, Spain, Russia, Portugal
, Mexico and Belgium
all commissioned him to paint portraits. The monumental Winterhalter paintings established a substantial popular reputation. In 1987 an exhibition of Winterhalter oil painting at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Petit Palais in Paris brought him into the limelight again. Winterhalter art is exhibited today in leading European and American museums. -- The Copyright of Scripts is Reserved by Toperfect.
