James Carroll Beckwith, 1852-1917, was an American painter whose Impressionist style led to his recognition in the late nineteenth century as a prominent figure in American art. James Carroll Beckwith paintings were concentrated mostly on portraits, figure studies, landscapes of historical monuments, and decorative design. The artist received many awards including an Honorable Mention at the Paris Exposition. His sketchbooks and the diaries are held by the National Academy of Design in New York City.
