Asher Brown Durand, 1796-1886, was an American painter of the Hudson River School, known for his Landscape art. Durand is particularly remembered for his detailed portrayals of trees, rocks
, and foliage. His 1849 oil painting Kindred Spirits in a Catskills landscape was sold at an auction in 2005 for a purported $35 million, a record price paid for an American painting at the time.
