The Creation of Adamc. 1511 480.10 cm × 230.10 cm On November 1st 1512, the Michelangelo ceiling fresco of the Sistine Chapel was finally unveiled. One of the largest frescos in art history the Genesis can be seen on the ceiling composed of 33 panels. The most attractive scene is the image of Creation Adam. The composition of Michelangelo the Creation reflects the extraordinary inspiration and imagination of Michelangelo. A mature strong and handsome young man brimming with the vigor of youth wakes up from the slumber, and he seems to lack of energy leaning there feebly. But the strong and young physique of Adam is portrayed full of ideal beauty by the artist Michelangelo. In the painting of The Creation of Adam, God is depicted as an affable elderly man. He holding the angles and flying approaches. Then he outstretches his powerful hand to the Adam while Adam stretch out his arm to touch the hand of God who gave him life. The touch of the fingers of god and human is the centre of the whole picture Michelangelo Creation, as well as the symbolism of Genesis undoubtedly. What is intriguing is that art Michelangelo didn’t make the two hands in touch to create a miracle. The tiny distance is left an eternal moment of waiting. The Creation of Adam gives people room for an everlasting imagination. |

Last Judgement1537-1541, 1370 cm × 1200 cm After 7 years hard work, another amazing the Last Judgement Michelangelo artwork was finished at his 66. This 14.6 meters height and 13.4 meters width painting depicts the scene of the final judgment by God of human beings’ soul. The whole picture of Last Judgement is highly integrated. Taken the central Christ, the virgin and the saints as the core, good spirit in the heaven and evil spirit in the hell are surrounding them. Tortured images in pain are in sharp contrast to the magnificent ceiling, which adds a solemn and horrible sense in the majesty. Anyone, including the artist himself is not forgiven in Last Judgement Michelangelo, in which he painted himself into a stripped human skin. The artistic effect of Last Judgement is so astonishing that at the first sight of it the Pope was dismayed to kneel down and pray to god for a mercy in his Last Judgement. But there are also opposers. Many people are opposed to Michelangelo artist for that he depicted Christ into an image of pagan with beards shaved and muscles strong. More people are against dozens of nudes in the painting by Michelangelo Last Judgement and consider it too obscene. All the latter Popes held negative attitudes so they hired other painters to draw fig leaves on the nudes. |
