Famous Jack Vettriano paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections worldwide. The best known oil paintings of modern Scottish art are Singing Butler by Jack Vettriano, Mad Dogs, Dance Me To The End Of Love. There aren’t a lot of living legends in art, but Jack Vettriano is alive and well as a Scottish painter that is a worldwide success. His most popular painting was the 1992 surprise ‘The Singing Butler’, an oil creation that went on to get sold for the highest price ever for a Scottish painting in 2004. The UK was buzzing with the popularity of this painting, and it is one of the most reproduced modern paintings of all time. So what makes ‘The Singing Butler’ so popular? Depending on the background of the person looking at it, there is a stir of emotions that can range from happiness to sadness. It’s a very uplifting Jack Vettriano oil painting, and in it a happy couple is dancing on the beach despite the fact that it is raining. The maid holds up an umbrella along with the butler, while this unforgettable scene takes place. Widely loved and equally criticized, this is very much the work that put Vettriano on everyone’s radar. ‘A Voyage of Discovery’ takes on a completely different tone, this time with a man and woman sitting down together. There is a bit of mystery involved as the man looks down at the woman’s leg while running his hand up her thighs in public. The lady looks away from the man so it isn’t quite clear whether she knows him, or if this is some stranger trying to seduce her. Much has been noted about the great characterization in this Jack Vettriano painting, and also the good design choices for both characters in the painting. Not his most famous painting but one of the most talked about is ‘Round Midnight1’. It focuses on the backside of a woman in black lingerie and in the background there is a giant window with the silhouette of a man staring back at her. Like characters in most of Vettriano paintings, she is holding a cigarette, what many associate as a meaning for signs of power or dominance when it comes to people in his painting. It’s a very stylized look, and one that he has perfected over the course of his career. |
